Apple doubling iPhone production ahead of launch

A new research report from Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes says that iPhone manufacturing volume has doubled compared to last quarter. Reitzes attributes the jump to Apple’s projections of iPhone sales this summer, and also suggests that a second, higher-end iPhone model could be driving part of the production increase.

It’s pretty clear by now that some kind of new iPhone will be arriving this summer, but we don’t know many details past that. A recent research note from Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes offers insight into a few outstanding questions, however. According to AppleInsider’s notes on the report, Reitzes believes that at least two models may be coming, and that Apple has doubled its iPhone production this quarter based on anticipated launch demand.
