iPhone Buyers can Order Online from Apple Once Again

iPhone News & UpdatesPotential iPhone buyers can once again order the device online to be shipped directly to their doorsteps. Apple updated its website today with a page that takes orders right from the Web. It’s like the late-90s all over again!

Buyers of the original iPhone were able to order online, but that practice quickly fell by the wayside as Apple and AT&T instituted a strict “no in-home activation” policy with the iPhone 3G. Because of this, customers who wanted an iPhone 3G were forced to head to Apple and AT&T retail stores to get their store-activated iPhones for almost six months, although AT&T did allow customers to start ordering iPhones online again in December of 2008.

Apple’s current online ordering system only applies to new AT&T customers—if you’re an existing subscriber who wants to upgrade, you’ll still have to head into a retail store to sort out the details. The slight tweak in policy follows in a series of changes that seem to hint that the two companies are looking to unload their existing stock before introducing a new device this summer. Either way, easier ordering means happier customers, so this is a change we can get behind.
