Marvel Comics Launches iPhone Push with Multiple Partners
Marvel Comics has laaunched a series of its classic comics for iPhone, working with three separate companies as distribution partners.
Comixology, iVerse and Panelfly are all selling a range of Marvel’s comics through their iPhone apps, using in-app payments for users to buy them.
Brands including Captain America, Astonishing X-Men, Iron Man and Spider-Man are part of the big push from Marvel, which appears to be US-only at the time of writing.
Individual comics are being sold for $2 through the apps, although Panelfly appears to be subsidising this by $1 to get a jump on its competitors.
The launch is a further boost for the idea of comics on the iPhone, with all three firms having been busily signing licensing deals in recent months.
Marvel is a long-time player in the mobile space, having signed a famously lucrative multi-year deal with Mforma (before it was known as Hands-On Mobile) in December 2004, while more recently agreeing a mobile games deal with Gameloft.
The company is also working with animation studio Campfire to mobilise its comics.
